The Surgery: The
tubes are repaired using a multilayer technique followed by a chromotubation
to ensure the tubes are open. The surgery is performed through a
mini-laparotomy incision of about 3 inches located at the hair line.
The incision is closed using a plastic surgery technique and 10-0 nylon suture. This is the smallest suture available. The smaller the suture the less scar tissue. This results in higher pregnancy rates. Dr. Rosenfeld has perfected this technique over the past 27 years of performing tubal reanastomosis.
The surgery is performed in a new state-of-the-art
outpatient surgery center - First Street Surgical Center. The On-Q
pain pump, a revolutionary pump, is included in the surgery. This method of local pain control enables patients
to recover comfortably without the need for oral pain medications
that cause bothersome side effects such as congestion, constipation,
and drowsiness.
What you should bring to an appointment: A copy
of your Operative Report from your tubal ligation surgery
is very helpful. Copies of lab results, x-rays &/or hormone
studies are also useful. (Medical Records Release Form). Referrals
from other physicians are welcome.
Dr. Rosenfeld will review all Medical Records to determine if you are a candidate for the Reversal surgery. If you have not heard from the office within one week of receiving these forms, please call the office and ask to ensure they were received and processed.
Your Surgery Appointments: If you are coming from out of town you will need to plan to have an office visit the day prior to surgery. This visit will last approximately 2 hours. You will meet Dr. Rosenfeld, and go over the surgery with him. You will have a pelvic ultrasound performed in the office. You will be free after that appointment. The following morning you will arrive at First Street Surgical Center at 6 am. You will meet the anesthesiologist and have your blood drawn. General Anesthesia is used for the surgery. The surgery lasts less than two hours. You will be discharged in the afternoon and can return to the hotel. Most patients are able to travel home the day after their surgery. You may return to the office before traveling if you would like to be evaluated by the nursing staff.
What to expect from surgery:
As a result of the surgery, the tubes will grow back together. That
is why many physicians will give you a money-back guarantee. In
most cases, it does not matter if your tubal ligation was done with
clamps, tying, or burning. The length of time since your tubal ligation
does not affect your tubes ability to grow back together. Your individual
success rate is affected by your age, how regular your periods are,
and your partners sperm count.
Out of town patients: You will be required to complete the Surgical Clearance Letter before surgery.
Costs: The fee for the Reversal is $6,300.00 which covers pre-operative lab work, surgeon’s fee, On-Q pain pump, take home medications, anesthesia fee, operating room and post-operative care through the evening of the surgery. However, the cost of treatment of any unexpected medical complications are not covered by this fee. The cost of any unexpected medical complications may be covered by your medical insurance, even if the Reversal is not.
To schedule your surgery: A $1000 deposit is required to schedule the surgery. The balance of $5,300 is due in full 2 weeks prior to the procedure. If cancelled with 2 weeks notice, $350 will be refunded to you, $650 of the deposit is non-refundable. If less than two weeks notice is given the entire deposit is forfeited.
The
office is on many insurance plans and will gladly bill the insurance
company for any portion of the treatment covered. Semen analysis
is available for an additional fee.
